My bathroom in Caye Caulker - quite flash really - no hot water - but who needs it - it is so hot - day and night |
On the fast boat on our way from Caye Caulker to an adventure at sea |
The beautiful azure blue Caribbean in front of the last British base in Belize |
We stop on a desert island - its about the size of half a football pitch - a great place just to laze about. |
Still on the desert island with just a few people around |
The view of the desert island as we leave it after a great lunch |
Difficult to see but in the centre is the nose of a Manatee |
Our boat stops and the driver acts as lookout for the illusive Manatees |
A better picture of a Manatee they are about the size of a large car |
Snorkeling just before the sharks arrive to be fed |
You can just about make out the shape of a stingray - they are pretty big - especially close up as I was swimming and diving down to touch them |
Heading back to Caye Caulker after a great day swimming, snorkeling and diving |
The local jetty on Caye Caulker |
The beach on Caye Caulker with the shacks coming right down to the beach - beautiful |
Leaving Caye Caulker after too short a visit, back onto the jet taxi back to Belize City |
The post office in Belize - a typical British colonial building and very old fashioned inside, here I send my first postal pack home, not really sure if it will ever get there |
After the Jet Taxi we get into a min bus and all our worldly goods get packed onto the roof |
Time to leave Belize and enter into Guatemala, through a very quiet customs |
Actually crossing the border into Guatemala - here we mingle with others going through and it takes a little time |
The local square in Flores, the large churches become a common site |
A view from Flores back to the mainland as Flores is an island in the middle of the lake. Although the water is tempting, we are advised not to swim, as it is polluted |
A typical scene in Flores - though this was just before an amazing downpour which quickly changed the street into a small river |
A view across the Flores lake - beautiful. |
A view of the lake from the balcony outside my room |
Evening meal at a local restaurant in Flores |
Tikal Mayan ruin - apparently there are crocodiles here, I did not see any, but I didn't go too close just in case |
One of the smaller pyramids at Tikal |
A much bigger pyramid at Tikal |
Part of the communal area in Tikal |
The view of a pyramid in the distance taken from the top of another pyramid at Tikal |
From this angle a bigger perspective of part of the Tikal ruins |
Hopefully you can get a feel for the scale of things as this picture shows the height of the pyramid I was standing on |
Just to prove I was at Tikal |
To climb the steps - that is the question |
A group picture of us - it rained most of the day |
On top of one of the highest pyramids - see another in the distance - the whole area is enormous and much of it still not uncovered, or even discovered |
Local bird life within the jungle of Tikal |
There were many large ceremonial stones in Tikal |
Trekking back through the jungle of Tikal |
Tikal one of the great Mayan sites in Guatemala, in front is a scale model of the ruins |
