My bathroom in Caye Caulker - quite flash really - no hot water - but who needs it - it is so hot - day and night

CNV00002.JPG

On the fast boat on our way from Caye Caulker to an adventure at sea

CNV00003.JPG

The beautiful azure blue Caribbean in front of the last British base in Belize

CNV00004.JPG

We stop on a desert island - its about the size of half a football pitch - a great place just to laze about.

CNV00005.JPG

Still on the desert island with just a few people around

CNV00006.JPG

The view of the desert island as we leave it after a great lunch

CNV00007.JPG

Difficult to see but in the centre is the nose of a Manatee

cnv00008.jpg

Our boat stops and the driver acts as lookout for the illusive Manatees

CNV00009.JPG

A better picture of a Manatee they are about the size of a large car

CNV00010.JPG

Snorkeling just before the sharks arrive to be fed

CNV00011.JPG

You can just about make out the shape of a stingray - they are pretty big - especially close up as I was swimming and diving down to touch them

CNV00012.JPG

Heading back to Caye Caulker after a great day swimming, snorkeling and diving

CNV00013.JPG

The local jetty on Caye Caulker

CNV00014.JPG

The beach on Caye Caulker with the shacks coming right down to the beach - beautiful

CNV00015.JPG

Leaving Caye Caulker after too short a visit, back onto the jet taxi back to Belize City

cnv00016.jpg

The post office in Belize - a typical British colonial building and very old fashioned inside, here I send my first postal pack home, not really sure if it will ever get there

CNV00017.JPG

After the Jet Taxi we get into a min bus and all our worldly goods get packed onto the roof

CNV00018.JPG

Time to leave Belize and enter into Guatemala, through a very quiet customs

CNV00019.JPG

Actually crossing the border into Guatemala - here we mingle with others going through and it takes a little time

CNV00020.JPG

The local square in Flores, the large churches become a common site

CNV00021.JPG

A view from Flores back to the mainland as Flores is an island in the middle of the lake. Although the water is tempting, we are advised not to swim, as it is polluted

CNV00022.JPG

A typical scene in Flores - though this was just before an amazing downpour which quickly changed the street into a small river

CNV00023.JPG

A view across the Flores lake - beautiful.

CNV00024.JPG

A view of the lake from the balcony outside my room

cnv00025.jpg

Evening meal at a local restaurant in Flores

cnv00026.jpg

Tikal Mayan ruin - apparently there are crocodiles here, I did not see any, but I didn't go too close just in case

cnv00027.jpg

One of the smaller pyramids at Tikal

cnv00028.jpg

A much bigger pyramid at Tikal

CNV00029.JPG

Part of the communal area in Tikal

cnv00030.jpg

The view of a pyramid in the distance taken from the top of another pyramid at Tikal

CNV00031.JPG

From this angle a bigger perspective of part of the Tikal ruins

cnv00032.jpg

Hopefully you can get a feel for the scale of things as this picture shows the height of the pyramid I was standing on

CNV00033.JPG

Just to prove I was at Tikal

cnv00034.jpg

To climb the steps - that is the question

CNV00035.JPG

A group picture of us - it rained most of the day

CNV00036.JPG

On top of one of the highest pyramids - see another in the distance - the whole area is enormous and much of it still not uncovered, or even discovered

CNV00037.JPG

Local bird life within the jungle of Tikal

CNV00038.JPG

There were many large ceremonial stones in Tikal

cnv00039.jpg

Trekking back through the jungle of Tikal
